WAY BACK THEN!

Mechelle from Pink Daisys Blog sent me this yesterday. While some of you may have read it before on other blogs, I thought it was worth posting here...it's really, really what life was like...WAY BACK THEN!!!

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning.

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter and I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli.

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.

The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

We all took gym, not PE...and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.

Flunking gym was not an option... even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.

Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.

We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.

I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.

I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.

Oh yeah... and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked.

Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat..

We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either, because if we did we got our butt spanked there and then we got our butt spanked again when we got home.

I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck.

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that? We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes. We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac!

How did we ever survive?!!!

As some of you already know, I have a 1 bedroom apartment I call My Playhouse. The apartment Jed and I live in is on a different floor, so I can really call it a getaway. Here is a photo of it, I will post more a bit later.

JUST A NOTE

Just wanted to say hello to everyone.

I'm going to have a new 1/2 OFF ITEM up on Monday around 8am, so keep an eye out for it.
I'll let you know how the diet and walking is going when I post my stats on Monday, after my walk. Monday is also my weigh-in day, so I will add my weight loss too.
Each Monday I add 5 Minutes (until I'm walking 1 hour). I start out on Monday at 2.6m.p.h. and increase the speed each day, until I get to 3.0m.p.h. on Friday. So this Monday I will start out at 50 minutes at 2.6mph. When I reach 1 hour at 3.0m.p.h. I will decide what do to next.
This is probably boring to everyone but me, but it is a record for me. And it makes me feel really good to look back at this post later, and see my accomplishment. So bare with me...I won't always go on and on about this...I promise.

OK SO I'M HOOKED

or rather, needled...hee hee..
I must confess...I'm a knitter. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. I just haven't knitted in umpteen dozen years. But, this Christmas, I got out my needles and before you know it, I had knitted a bunch of scarves.
The last one is really pretty. Although it is very basic, I felt like it was good enough to sell. So, this morning I put it on The French Country Look and The French Country Look on Etsy website.

MY GREAT GREAT NEPHEW...LOOK AT THOSE CHUBBY LEGS..OH SO CUTE!!

THE FIRST MONDAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!

So....Valentines Breakfast was a total disaster!!! The pancake mix, (a squirt bottle simular to whipped cream) didn't work and the strawberries went bad overnight!!! I overcooked the bacon and my yukky oatmeal had bugs in it. So, much to Jeds' chagrin, we both had eggbeaters and toast. I know this will be another laughable memory sometime in the future, and I know no one up there hates me, (DO THEY?) but for now, it really irks me to no end.

Today is another walk day...holiday or not, on the treadmill...working to get some of this excess weight off.

For the Record:
45 Minutes
2.6 M.P.H.
Distance 1.91
Calories Burned 191.5
AND 2 more lost pounds

It really amazes me...did you know to gain 1 pound we have to OVEREAT 3500 calories?...ergo...to lose 1 pound we have to UNDEREAT 3500 calories!!!

There's more, but I'll save it for another time...off to do the crossword puzzle...

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!

Today is Valentines Day and I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I spent most of yesterday, in the pouring rain, I might add, going from store to store looking for a load of red, pink and white plants. I knew I was going to wait until the last minute because I wanted them as fresh as possible...but who knew it was going to rain like cats and dogs. Anyway, I got all the plants home and sorted out...The house smells soooo good.

So, this morning my sweetie is going to wake up to pancakes and bacon...strawberries and coffee. Lucky him. I, on the otherhand, get to stay on my diet with low-fat oatmeal....lucky me!!!

To all my family and friends...this is another chance to say, "I love you".

BOY! DO MY WORDS TASTE NASTY!!!!

Okay...I know, I said I hated blogs and would never have one. Well...what do I know????

It seems to me the older I get, my "I'll Never Do" list gets smaller and smaller. So, here is one more thing I can check off...

I hope to find something interesting to write. One of my many fears about doing this is sounding like one of those Christmas Letters I hate so much. You know the ones...where everything is rosy and sweet and nothing embarrassing or awkward ever happens. Well, you have my permission to call me on it, if you find me too chirpy. TTYL....
