A TIME TO REFLECT

This time every year, I like to reflect on the passed year. Did I do my best? Could I do better? Who would I like to get to know better, and who can I let in, just a little more?

If I died today, are there any regrets, anything left unsaid, undone? These are the questions I ask myself every year. Sometimes, I can say I'm okay, but mostly, I have lots of work to do. Next year, I promise, I'll do better.

Heavenly Father,

I stand here in amazement of what you have done for us. All of us. Everyone in this beautiful world that you made and we get to enjoy
the awesomeness of it.

Father at this time of the year we all reflect on how greatful and blessed we are, and the ones who are in desparate need of your help.
Thank you for Family, Friends and loved one near and far. Father bless the many men, women and children who have found themselves in deparate need this year. Provide for all their needs.

Father bless and protect our servicemen who serve our country here and in foregin lands. Bless their families and protect them.

We love you Lord and we are so very, very greatful for all that you have provided. Father keep me ever mindful that everyday is a day
to be greatful. Not just one day out of the year but everyday.

Dear Zack:

Today is your Birthday...16 years old...man, oh man, who would have thunk it???? It seems like just yesterday, Granddad and I were calling your dad every day to find out if you were born...

I remember, a long, long time ago, turning 16. I couldn't wait to get my drivers license so I could drive through town with the windows open and the radio blasting out some Beatles or Stones song. I was on top of the world.

I hope you have a wonderful day, and that all your wishes come true.

Life has a way of sneaking past you, one day your sixteen and the next your sixty...I can only hope your in-between years are as great as mine have been, that you find your perfect someone and that your happy times far out-weigh the sad ones.

IT'S A MIRACLE LISA WALKED AWAY!!!!

A tractor that was cutting grass on side of freeway had a bush hog mower, and the mower deck hydraulics failed and it came down in Lisa's lane....she didn't have time to get out of the way, hit it at 65mph, and it flipped the van on it's side....slid 50-60 yards down the freeway....Thank God She walked away from this with only a cut, even though it took 3 stitches...it still was a miracle.

I DID IT AGAIN...GOT A BIT PISSY!!!!

So, this is what happened. My Facebook friends are (were) talking Politics and Religion... Now, I have my own personal views, but I really don't think Facebook is the place to vent them. It seems to me, Facebook is for connecting, and re-connecting with family and friends. It's a place to share our lives with those that live far away. I just love all my friends and family I have re-connected with.

Now, with that being said...I got pissy the other night and wrote on my wall, "I'm getting sick of all the politics and God talk on facebook. Why can't we just get back to telling all the dirt on our friends, neighbors and relatives?".

It was meant to be a humorous way of saying "ENOUGH ALREADY"...and most everyone seemed to "get it".

One of my friends, Steve did more than "get it", he just emailed me with the cutest story. I feel I should share it with you...

A new pastor was visiting the homes of his parishioners. At one house, it seemed obvious someone was at home but no answer came to his repeated knocks. He took out a card and wrote, Revelation 3:20 on the back and stuck it in the door. When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found his card had been returned with the cryptic message, Genesis 3:10. Reaching for his bible to check the citation, and he broke into gales of laughter...

Revelation 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
Genesis 3:10, I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid, for I was naked."

Now that is the kind of God Talk, even I can understand...

GRADUATION DAY!!!

Today, Tony graduated from College...I couldn't be prouder of him. As some of you know, he really worked hard to accomplish this. He has been working on it for approx. 25 years. First, he was in the Navy, then married, and last every spare second he has spent preparing his kids for the outside world. He is a remarkable human being...I aspire to be like him. He is my hero.

SOMETHING MY FATHER USED TO SAY

Some of you already know my parents were from the South. With that being said, it goes without saying that they spew'd out Southern Expressions like crazy. My mother was the one we all rolled our eyes at and wondered what was going to come out next. But it was our Fathers sayings that I seem to fall back on when things get crazy at my house.

I remember this one, because my feeling were hurt and I was crying...some playmate had hurt my feeling and I was heart broken. Anyway, I remember my father asking me what was wrong and when I told him he said, "Go back to school tomorrow and kill them with kindness, if that doesn't work, just feel sorry for them, because they are missing out on one great friendship".

At the time I thought he was just being...well...Daddy. But over the years, I have come to realize just how remarkable that advise really was. I have heard it whispered in my ear many times and more often than not, when I listen to it, things go much smother in my life.

I'll share more of Mother and Daddys sayings as time goes by, but this one is an important one and I want all my readers to know how remarkable you are and what your friendship means to me and to everyone you touch.

JOB SHADOW DAY!

Zack shadowed the reknown oral surgeon, Dr. Daniel Spagnoli, today. He observed several surgeries, along with some routine office visits and his first comment to me was, "It was awesome".

Zack wants to be a surgeon and getting to shadow Dr. Spagnoli is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you Dr. Spagnoli, for taking the time to show Zack what it is like to ease the suffering of others.

A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife stayed home.
He wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed:

Dear Lord:

I go to work every day and put in 8 hours while my wife merely stays at home.
I want her to know what I go through. So, please allow her body to switch with mine for a day..

God, in his infinite wisdom, granted the man's wish. The next morning, sure enough, the man awoke as a woman...

He arose, cooked breakfast for his mate, Awakened the kids, Set out their school clothes, Fed them breakfast, Packed their lunches, Drove them to school, Came home and picked up the dry cleaning, took it to the cleaners and stopped at the bank to make a deposit, went grocery shopping, Then drove home to put away the groceries,
Paid the bills and balanced the check book. He cleaned the cat's litter box and bathed the dog.. Then, it was already 1 P.M. And he hurried to make the beds, do the laundry, vacuum, dust, And sweep and mop the kitchen floor. Ran to the school to pick up the kids and got into an argument with them on the way home. set out milk and cookies and got the kids organized to do their homework. Then, set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did the ironing. At 4:30 he began peeling potatoes and washing vegetables for salad, breaded the pork chops and snapped fresh beans for supper.

After supper, He cleaned the kitchen, Ran the dishwasher, Folded laundry, Bathed the kids, And put them to bed. At 9 P.M. He was exhausted and, though his daily chores
weren't finished, he went to bed where he was expected to make love, which he managed to get through without complaint. The next morning, he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said:

Lord, I don't know what I was thinking. I was so wrong to envy my wife's being able to stay home all day. Please, Oh! Please, let us trade back.. Amen!

The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied:

My son, I feel you have learned your lesson and I will be happy to change things back to the way they were. You'll just have to wait nine months, though. You got pregnant last night.

Dear Mother:

This letter is over 30 years overdue. I guess the expression, "Better Late Than Never", can apply here, but somehow, it still doesn't seem to fit.

I miss you terribly. I ache to see you just one more time, to hear your laughter fill the room, to feel your touch. How I would cherish you, respect you. I would hold you ever so close.

But this letter is a lot more than what I would do if you were here now...it is a letter of apology. When I think of all the mean things I said to you, how I held you in contempt, how I hated you, I feel embarrassed. But mostly I am ashamed. The feeling of shame is so overwhelming I can hardly breath sometimes. I was NOT a good daughter, much less the friend you wanted me to be.

Most folks my age say their prayers at night...I say, "Good Night, Mommie, I love you". Do you hear me? Can you ever forgive me? Yes, I know I have some justifications...but really, I don't. No matter what mistakes you made, I didn't have to act the way I did...I had a choice, I took the low road! I could have loved you, I could have seen through the craziness and forgiven you.

What mistakes you made were nothing compared to what I did to you. I shut you out of my life, I despised you and for what? Your biggest mistake with me was loving me. I am deeply and regretably sorry, from the bottom of my heart. I lay my soul at your feet and humbly beg your forgiveness.

If you were here today, I would be different, I would know how a loving daughter acts toward her Mother. I would have no regrets. As it is, here I sit, writing this overdue letter.

Tony and his Beautiful Family

After Tony graduated High School, he joined the Navy, spent 6 years on a Nuclear Submarine, met and married Lisa, and has raised two fabulous boys. He works full time, found time to coach soccer, and spend quality time with his family....ALL OF US!! All the while, he has quietly and steadily gone to night school and/or taken classes on line to get his Bachelors Degree.

I am proud to post that, now at 42, we learned he will graduate Magna Cum Laude!!!!

His Dad and I are Proud as Peacocks...We love you so very much, Tony. Thank you for making us the proudest parents ever!!!!

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.' The grandson thought about it for a minute...and then asked his grandfather, 'Which wolf wins?' the old Cherokee simply replied, 'The one you feed.'

So please remember to feed your life with peace and kindness...watch what happens.

A FUN INFORMAL LUNCHEON TABLESETTING

When I decide to host a luncheon, not only do choose the menu carefully, I work hard at coordinating the table setting with their surroundings.

RULE 1: ALWAYS CHOOSE LOCATION OF TABLE/TABLES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

This is extremely important, as all of your table setting will revolve around the environment. In the photo below, I decided to let the summer breeze in and chose a spot near open french doors.

RULE 2: CHOOSE A "THREAD" AND STICK WITH IT.

I know, some of you think I am crazy, but the sooner you decide what is going to tie everything together, the better. Sometimes I use a color, sometimes a theme and sometimes I embrace the season.

Let your imagination go crazy, just remember to stay focused and stick with your "thread". In the example below, I used "Flowers" as my thread.

RULE 3: KEEP THE SETTING SIMPLE BUT USE YOUR IMAGINATION.

The KISS method always works...KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID...so don't be afraid to use it.

When I think the table is perfect, I chose 3 things to remove. It makes me prioritize my table in unexpected ways.

INTRODUCING MY "HOW-TO" POSTING

I've been missing in action lately...the reason is simple. I've had the flu, been busy taking down Christmas decorations and I'm getting ready to decorate for Valentines Day.

BUT...also, I had a small, intimate afternoon tea party the other day, and my girl freinds.(also, my biggest fans) asked me to add some of my tablesetting skills to the blog...seems everyone CAN'T mix patterns, set a pretty table or think outside the box.

SOOOOOOO....I am going to start a "How-To" on my blog. I will start with setting an informal, mix and match table, with a few basic rules which I rely on. I hope it will help you look into your china cabinet and pull out some of those pieces you bought.."Just Because". Give me a few days to set it up, take and edit the photos and get it posted...

Most of you know...Pixie stays mostly with Ivan. She still goes to work at the office everyday, and she spends the weekends with us sometimes, but mostly she is with Ivan.

It was love at first sight when they saw each other. Pixie loves Ivan as much as Ivan loves her. She stays in Ivans office at work as much as Jeds. So when it started getting too hard for us to keep up with her, we asked Ivan to help with her.

As usual, Ivan has our back, and stepped up to the plate. There are lots of reasons I love Ivan, but one of them is his kindness. He is the kindest person I know. He says things with kindness, and he trys to always act with kindness. I will always be thankful to have him in my life.

Today is Thanksgiving and as many do on this day...I am reflecting.

My heart swells with love and pride every time I think of having the privilege to be at the side of my hero, Jed Ufland. He is my everything. Still after 36 years, it is his name, in the night, I call when I am afraid; his smile that makes me soar to the sky with happiness; and his love that never fails me.

His courage, his wit, and his love is what has made me the person I am, and strive to be, everyday.

ANNIVERSARY STORY

What started out to be a cool surprise for Jed, turned out to be a Comedy of Errors.

First off, Jed had to go into the office on Wednesday, so we postponed the celebration until Thursday. Okay, I can deal with that...no problem. After 37 years, what's one more day, right?

Jed and I hung out all day yesterday...watching old movies, reading and just talking but most of all, enjoying each other. It's funny, but still after all this time, I'd rather be with him than anyone. I guess that is really what love is all about. My surprise was coming later, anyway.

First, I need to give you the back story. We used to go to Trader Vic Restaurant all the time. We ordered nearly the whole menu and pigged out for hours...we just loved the place. Then, Merv Griffen died (he was the owner) and it started going downhill, it was eventually sold and then it really got bad. Anyway, it finally closed...we were heartbroken. Our Pig-out place was gone forever...or so we thought.

Last week while I was shopping for Christmas things downtown, I drove by it. IT WAS STILL HERE...just moved across the street from Staples Center. I was delighted...that was going to be my big surprise. I was going to drive up to the restaurant, get out, leave the car with the Valet and we were going to eat until we popped. After a 45 minute drive, (2.5 miles, I HATE LA TRAFFIC)it was NOT TO BE!!!! (another back-story...Jed walks with a cane, and I have a terrible bad back) THERE WAS NO VALET PARKING!!!! I called TV's from the car and they said we had to park 3 blocks away. We went to the parking garage and it was a $25.00 parking fee. Now, I don't mind (well, sort of) spending that (especially on our anniversary), but then to walk 3 blocks...we called and cancelled the reservation. NO WAY, am I going to pay $25.00 and then walk 3 long blocks.

What to do...I immediately went into panic mode, and thought of Jeds other favorite restaurant, The Palm. So I turned the car around and pressed on. After an hour and a half of driving, we arrived at the restaurant. Needless to say, my back was KILLING ME and I could hardly walk (of course, I forgot MY cane).

Jed ordered a Crab Cocktail and a Broiled Lobster...his meal was pretty good. I deviated from my usual Capri Salad and Veal Parmigiana and decided to order Calamari and Steamed lobster. The Calamari was rubbery and (and this would be funny, if it wasn't so pathetic) I had to ask for a steak knife for the Lobster.

On the way home, we just started laughing...I have always said, when things go wrong, you are making a memory...so we started listing all our memories of the evening....made us crack up.

Oh...and the clincher...Jed told me it was 36 years...not 37...really made my evening.

MOTHERS BEST BACON ON THE PLANET!!!

I know...throw it in the Microwave...but...I just can't bring myself to stop cooking it the way Mother did. I feel very close to her, as I am standing there...turning each piece, checking for doneness. It's an act of love. Man, could she cook!!!

Anyway, this is how she did it.

First, start with Farmer Johns Bacon, or any Sugar Cured Bacon, and cook in bacon fat. She stored the fat in the fridge, and each time she used it, she would pour it up and store it. If ANYTHING other than bacon was cooked in the fat, she would throw it all away, and start over.

The more bacon fat, the better...she liked to cover the bacon...that way, it all cooked more evenly.

On Med-low heat fry the bacon until it is done. Now, here is one trick. Take out the bacon when it looks undercooked. You can always put it back, but once it is overcooked...it is too late. You can tell if it is done after it cools and it is crisp. Sometimes I put back just one corner...

Another trick...It really does the best job...drain on a brown paper bag...I use the inside of the grocery bag...just cut out a piece to fit your counter.

BE PATIENT...COOK IT SLOWLY, AND WAIT FOR THE KUDDOS!!!

The reason I bring this up is because, I am amazed at how many folks brag on these blogs (INCLUDING MYSELF, I MIGHT ADD)...I can hear my mother now..."I'd pat you on the back, but your arm's in the way"...and Mother, again you are right.

On the table for Sunday Brunch!

Fresh out of the oven!

Here is the recipe:

Four Seasons Resort in Hawaii
Baked Homestyle Eggs with Asparagus, Red Peppers and Chiles

10 each Eggs
1/2 C. All Purpose Flour
1 Tsp. Baking Powder
1 Tsp. Salt
2 C. (16 oz.) Cottage Cheese
4 C. (16 oz.) Jack Cheese, (shredded)
1/2 C. Butter, Melted and Cooled
4 oz. Green Chiles, (canned) Diced
1/2 C. Red Peppers, Diced
1/2 C. Asparagus, Diced

PROCEDURE:

Beat eggs until light and lemon colored.
Add Flour, Baking Powder, Salt, Cottage Cheese, Jack Cheese, Butter, Red Peppers, and Asparagus.
Blend until smooth.
Stir in Chiles
Pour mixture into a well buttered 9 x 13" baking pan.
Bake in preheated 350 oven for about 35 minutes, or until top is browned and center appears firm

The Senate Finance Committee has passed the Baucus Health Reform Bill...14-7.

Whether you are for it, or against it, it is going to change America. I, for one, pray it changes things for the better. My hope is, we get more good out of it than bad.

I realize I have no control over whether it is voted down, or passes. I can only choose to hope for the best, while preparing for the worst.

My prayer is that we get along, love one another and be tolerent of each other.

So, here is to us, The United States of America...right or wrong, she is my country and I stand behind her!!!

I was cleaning out a drawer today (I saw a show last night on Hourders...scared the bejingers out of me), and I ran across an old poem I wrote right after my father died, some 35 years ago.

It goes:

As a child, I was as free as a soft and gentle flower,
the sound of laughter was all around.

Now, I'm grown and all confused,
I feel the world with all it's cruelty.

Sometimes when my world turns cold,
I think of those ever so warm days.

Yep, that's right...I don't have enough. I purchased this BRIGHT Yellow wicker table. I hate the color, but the table is really cool. I'm in the process of painting it (white, of course) and I am going to have to decide then, whether to keep it, or sell it.

The really neat thing about it, besides that it's old and I love old wicker, is that the bottom "shelf" is really a very large tray. AND...is removable. How cool is that?

As soon as it is completed, I will take some photos. In the meantime, here is the ""Before" photo. Enjoy!!!

Just in case you noticed, I've been missing!!! Both of my computers were down for two days. Actually, it was the server, but that's just too long a story to go into tonight.

I always thought I was so cool...so interesting!!! Now, trying to figure out what to write about, I realize just what a boring life I have. Not that I'm complaining...more EXplaining!!!

What I find so neat in my life sounds mundane and ordinary when I write about it. Am I the only one in the world that feels like this? Does anyone else ever have times in their lives when nothing seems more than the day to day grind?

I hope I snap out of this pretty fast...because I have stuff to do...hee hee!!! Albeit, boring stuff, but stuff, none the less!!!

Just wanted to tell everyone to have a great weekend.

A bit late, but not TOO late, I am learning to take things slow and easy. I'm trying to remember, it's not what color your living room is that matters, but that you use it to LIVE in. It's not whether or not your couch ECHOS the drapes, but that your grandkids say "Thank You" because they heard you say it so often (now that's an echo, I can live with). Life is short and whether your house looks like a magazine or it has magazines all over it, its the journey that measures success.

SAME OLD, SAME OLD!!!

Nothing new here, just wanted to let everyone know, we are still alive and kicking.

We decided to stay home and walk around with wet washclothes covering our mouths...It works pretty well, except it gets old very fast!!!!

I can hardly wait until this fire is out and the temps go back to cooling us off, instead of cooking us.

On a sad note, my 80 year old neighbor, Mrs. Gavin, passed away on Monday, and today is her funeral. I will miss her. She brought a ray of sunshine to all those who were lucky enough to know her.

MAN OH MAN...IS IT HOT!!!

One of the perks of living in an Hysterical (Oh, I mean HISTORICAL) building is the lack of AC. I must say that on all but a few days of the year...throwing the windows open for the cross breeze really cools thing off, especially on the 9th floor.

But this week, with the fires and the heat...it is horrible!!!! The temp. has been in triple digits and there is white ash floating all over the place. It can't be good for our lungs.

Jed and I are going to gather a few goodies and go to Santa Monica, sit in the park by the beach, and have a picnic. Maybe that will cool us down.

BACK IN TOWN!!!

Well, we returned home late yesterday afternoon. We had a great time in North Carolina playing poker with the grandsons and hanging out at my sons house.

I baked way to many chocolate chip cookies and ate way to much food, but what the heck...we were on vacation.

I haven't really looked at the photos, so as soon as I cull through the whole lot, I will post some good ones.

Jed and the rest of the gang went to a Minor League Baseball Game, (I stayed home, I was beat!!!) and then on another day, they went to the movies...again, I stayed home...that time to bake cookies..

We went to the Palm for dinner one night and we played lots of games and did lots of Chit Chatting. It was really nice to see everyone again. It has been too long.

We got a couple of good photos of Jed sleeping in the chair...AND NO...he is NOT getting a Lazy Boy...

A NEW DAY AND A NEW WEEK

I know...I didn't post any photos of my new range...but first, I wanted to give you the back-story.

We have lived in the building for 27 years and the stove provided was, well, let's just say, a mess, to say the least. All the numbers had worn off the knobs, I couldn't get it clean anymore, but worse was, it never had a calibrator. So when I wanted to bake, I had to use a thermometer purchased at the market (never was accurate)to see when it got to the right temperature. The gaskets had worn away, so all the heat escaped. Anyway, you can see why I needed a new one.

Yes, I could have asked the building to provide me with another one that I would loathe, but Jed...Bless his heart...told me to go buy my dream range...so that is exactly what I did. I did keep the budget in mind (I know, not like me at all) and I found a stainless steel deluxe model from Sears...

We have been playing in the kitchen ever since it arrived. This week-end, we even made pancakes on the griddle.

SO...As soon as I tidy up the kitchen,wipe clean the stove top and make the kitchen presentable, I will post a photo.

Anyway, the kitchen was a breath of fresh air...Glass, Reverse Painted Subway Tiles (in a light aqua color)...over the entire wall space. And, of course, Stainless Steel Appliances, and a Granite Counter Top.

The topper was a Reproduction Tin Ceiling...and Contemporary
Fixtures..It was the prettiest kitchen I have seen in years..
I wanted to just step in and cook!!!!

I just found out we are going to North Carolina to visit my Tony, Lisa and Zack and Josh. We leave Aug. 15th and return Aug. 22nd.

I can't wait to throw my arms around Zack and Josh...I have missed them sooooo much. I know they are really big now, but even if I have to stand on a ladder...THEY ARE GETTING THE BIGGEST HUG I CAN GIVE.

For those who haven't heard, Pres. Carter has left his Church after 60 years because of what he called, their "repugnant" treatment of women. I, for one, am on his side, but it made me think about other things.

If there was ONE word you could change in the bible, what would it be, and why?

My word would be cursed...I would change it to blessed. How would the world look at women if women were blessed into giving childbirth, instead of cursed into giving it, (you remember...punishment for that apple thing). Makes one think, uh?

It is one of the Old Time Restaurants, where the waiters get to know you, and the food is Italian Great!!!! There are two small rooms, one with a bar, one with just tables. With red and white checkered tablecloths, wine bottles hanging from the ceiling, and the wonderful smells from the kitchen, you know as soon as you walk in, your mouth is going to be very happy!!!

We love to go to Dan Tanas to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or for just about anything. Last night we were celebrating living another day...just happy to be alive, together, and still having fun.

WOW TWO POSTS IN ONE DAY!!!

I know it's crazy, but I just had to put this on my blog...

About 3 weeks ago, Jed ordered some shirts from Turnbull and Asser in Beverly Hills.

They called today to say they were in and I asked them to please messenger them over to us. Usually, if we get a delivery of any kind the concierge signs for the item and calls to let us know we have something. For some reason, when the concierge called he said I should come down. So, down to the lobby I went.

The messenger was there with the package, and I signed for it. Then he asked me if I was an actress...MAN OH MAN!!! I'm 59 years old...and someone thought I was a MOVIE STAR!!! All I can hope for is that he didn't think I was Cloris Leachman...hee hee!!! Just thought I would share.

Jed loves Dark Chocolate Covered Marshmellows from Little Johns at the Farmers Market. Tomorrow, I am going to fight the parking, bear the heat, and go to buy him some. I can see the look of suprise delight on his face, in my mind, as I type.

I love to surprise him with things that make him happy...WHAT A JOY IT IS TO BE IN HIS LIFE...

38 years this November, and we are still on our first date.

I woke up early, 5:30am this morning...I love to see the dawn. The beginning of a new day, the start of something new. But today is going to be different.

Los Angeles is bracing for the chaos the MJ Memorial is going to create. Lots of crying, lots of mess to clean up, and lots of noise.

I, for one, was not a true MJ fan. I'm sorry he left us so early in life and I wonder what music we missed out on. I wonder what his 50's would have brought us in the music world. As far as his other business, well, I'm just not in a position to know the truth. I prefer to think that if the LAPD couldn't prove he was a criminal, then I have to believe it wasn't true. They sure tried hard enough!!!!

He was weird, that is for sure. But weird is a name folks have called lots of interesting, creative people. It happens to be a name I have always loved to be called. To me, it means extraordinary, off the wall and thinking outside the box. All of which can easily be said of MJ.

The thing that struck me this morning is the morning sky. It was dark and overcast. Not a usual sight for Los Angeles. It almost looks like it might rain. Wouldn't that be something? A downpour in LA on MJ's last hurrah!!! Weird, uh?

Every year the Wilshire Country Club puts on the most beautiful fireworks, and they are ACROSS THE STREET. It is like having your own private fireworks. We don't even have to go out, just open the curtains and the whole sky lights up.

I will try to get some good photos and post them tomorrow.

I can't believe it has really been so long since I've written. I really have nothing to say, but just wanted to say, "I'm alive and well."

I am doing some Spring (or should I say Summer) cleaning and will be putting more things on my two websites. Plus, as some of you know, I have an Etsy site, so I am going to be adding things to that as well.

Tomorrow I am taking photos of some antique curtains. I washed and ironed them...man what a job!!!! I will put some photos on here so you can see them before I put them on my site...just for fun.

MY ROASTED PEPPERS

Several folks have asked me to post my Roasted Peppers Recipe.

The only thing I would like to mention is different brands of Sun Dried Tomatos can taste entirely different. Buy a brand that you would eat out of the jar, plain. That way, you know you are going to love the results in the peppers.

So here we go:

ROASTED PEPPERS

INGREDIENTS:

4 RED BELL PEPPERS
SOME SKIN FROM ROASTED PEPPERS
(ADDS A NUTTY FLAVOR)
3 CLOVES GARLIC
EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
OIL FROM SUN DRIED TOMATOS
BALSAMIC VINEGAR
TOASTED PINE NUTS
(TOAST IN A FRYING PAN WITH OLIVE OIL)
SUN DRIED TOMATOS
(“FRIEDA” BRAND, PURCHASED AT GELSONS)
FRESH BASIL
ONION OR SHALLOTS
SALT
PEPPER

ROAST PEPPERS OVER OPEN FLAME UNTIL BLACK ALL OVER AND TENDER. PUT IN PAPER BAG FOR APPROX. 5 MINUTES. (THIS ALLOWS STEAM TO RELEASE SKIN AND THEY PEEL MUCH EASIER) PEEL PEPPERS AND REMOVE CORE AND SEEDS. ALSO REMOVE BITTER MEMBRANES INSIDE PEPPERS. SLICE PEPPERS INTO STRIPS.

COMBINE ALL OTHER INGREDIENTS WITH PEPPERS AND MARINATE OVER NIGHT, STIRRING OCCASIONALLY. THEY WILL LAST APPROX. 2 WEEKS IN REFRIGERATOR. (WE HAVE NEVER HAD THEM LAST THAT LONG....HEE HEE)

Some years, like today, when I was little, my Birthday would fall on Fathers Day. I felt so special to be sharing my day with the most perfect person in the world. To say that I was a "Daddys' Girl" was putting it mildly.

It has only been in the last few years, looking back, that I realized he was just like the rest of us. He was still Daddy, but human...flawed and complicated...loving and sincere. It's a paradox that we humans live with every day.

For those of you that still have your Fathers...love them, cherish them and forgive them. For those of us that don't...well, remember them fondly, with love in your heart.
